Irongirl Mom

Not all heroes wear capes. Mom is a hero-in-training raising money again for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She is going to be doing the Wildflower Long Course in May! She decided that our blog was so cool that she'd start one herself! Check out http://tntirongirlsarah.blogspot.com/ to see how her training is going.

We promise to update you on all of our 2009 adventures by the end of the year, so check back!

Extreme Bedroom Makeover #1 Down... One to go...

I woke up one day and decided the time had come for me to get my own room. Fortunately I announced this the week before a 3-day weekend so mom took the challenge and ran with it.

My little sister Lauren wanted a Rock 'n' Roll bedroom with hints of Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana (there is a difference according to Lauren), Camp Rock, and Elvis!

Here is Lauren Hawaii rockin' in her new stage in the corner of her room! Some of the stuff glows in the dark - Rock on!

Every great Rock 'n' Roll artist has not just one backup singer... but TWO!

Here she is, sleeping in a cloud... Note the puffy tulle and the stars above her head. She has the dreamy Jonas Brothers (her words, not mine) on her pillow! As usual, you can see she's serving up a big dish of personality!

Stay tuned for the Extreme Bedroom Makeover #2 coming soon! An Indiana Jones Room!

Where does a year go?

Wow, 2008 just flew by. Mom says she can't even remember a thing - I think she was working too hard. We get away with all sorts of things when she's not paying attention!

(They're chocolate!)

As usual, in the fall, I played soccer! My team was the Silver Surfers and many of my friends were on my team this year!

But this year, there was a new player on the field. A player with a really strong long kick! Guess who was on the Purple Fishies (and she thought of the name too!)

If you know me, you know I love Indiana Jones, Han Solo, and Harrison Ford! Mom has ways to get addresses for people, so when she found out that I'd written a really long letter to Harrison Ford in class, she said, "Let's mail it!"

Sadly, this address didn't work... part 2 to come soon.

I wasn't sad for too long because my birthday was near and it was the best birthday ever! Mom let me and my two best buddies (and Sissy) go to Disneyland on my birthday!

It's my one buddy's birthday about 2 weeks later and we invited our 3rd mousekateer along! Sissy had fun trying to keep up with us! Let it be known, she did NOT like Splash Mountain!

I got more fun out of that day than I could ever wish for! Apparently my cousin "Aspina" the golden lab wanted to celebrate my birthday too and she decided she'd eat the chocolates out of my gift bag.

Fortunately Sissy is better at crafts than Aspina and she made some fun stuff to decorate our house for the holidays!
Since we helped mom haul and decorate a tree this year, we tried to pose for our Holiday card in front of it. It took a few tries...

Take 1... a little too much attitude...

Take 2... A little too close for comfort

Take 3... Aw nuts!

Aah, Picture Perfect!

I spent the whole holiday season debating whether or not Santa Claus is real or if it's my parents who buy me things. But Miklos Baci comes way before all that started, and we were SO excited! Lauren wrote a note to him with fancy letters! So girly (shhh! Don't tell her that)!

Well, I can't believe it's 2009 and a lot has changed!

Mom has a new job working for Team In Training... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuaCvKhOtJA Watch out! If you get too close to her you may find yourself signed up to do a marathon!

We help out when we can... a few weekends ago we handed out red vines to runners at mile 26 in a (26.2 mile) marathon. Some told us we saved their lives!

Sissy has a new thing, she wants to wear her hair up every day now. As you can see she's becoming a regular fashionista!

I've switched sports now and am fulfilling my lifelong dream to play baseball! I can't believe I have to wear protective gear, it's like knight's armor! I'll post pictures of that soon!

Well, until next time, Give us some rock! [fists clank and burst into fireworks effects!]

Wow, beautiful teeth must run in the family!

Summatime, Summatime, Summasummasummatime

Holey Moley, it's almost time for school again! I have to admit that I'm excited and hope to get the same teacher (new grade) for next year. But first, let me tell you about our summer!

Lauren danced in her second recital and this time she really did dance!
She told the teacher originally "I am not gonna wear that dress!" but she got in ballerina mode and owned it!

Goo goo often breaks into interpretive dance moves when we've got any music on. You should see her "walk down the stairs" when listening to "Low, low, low"!

I came home one day and said, "Mom, I need a talent. There's a talent show coming up!" Mom racked her brain for something I could do without hours of lessons and practice and that could be learned in 5 weeks or less and said, "Tell your jokes!" My friend Chimezie and I got up and told several jokes including one I made up myself: Why did Darth Vader turn off the light?... [pause] [Come on, you have to know this...] Because he prefers the dark side! This is Lauren and I trying on the costume to see if we would be taken seriously as comedians.

I moved up from Tiger Scouts to Bobcat Scouts. I can't believe all the things I started doing this year with Scouts. Fishing, camping, car racing, flag planting, driving in a derby, seeing the Space Shuttle in the sky and much more!

On the last day of school, Mom surprised us by picking us up early and taking us to the pier to play boardwalk games! We LOVE that place!

Oh, by the way Lauren is 4!

July 4th was awesome! I ran a race with my best school Buddy!

Then went to his house for fireworks and a sleep-over. Lauren and Mommy went to the beach and Lauren got a big ice cream that you can see crusted on her cheeks.

Lastly, we've all been really helpful with Mom and her being a Team In Training Captain for the Fall! First, check out her feet - she brought home more dirt in her shoes than we ever do at school!

We helped her ice her sore muscles by tossing ice cubes at her in the tub.

We've kept her company while doing boring ice baths.

No really, let me show you how cold it was... [Push TRIANGLE button to play]
And we are awesome Fundraisers! We raised $75 the first week selling cookies and milk! But she is trying to raise $3,200 by end of September so next time you are at the ATM think about if you want to spend it on coffee and lunch or if you want to take lunch and spend your $20 on a worthwhile cause! Visit here for more pix of us in the ice bath: http://pages.teamintraining.org/los/nikesf08/sharris. Even Mommy (who enjoys her Venti triple Skinny Hazlenut Lattes - yes I do have it memorized) is bringing her coffee from home sometimes, or going to the 7-11 (cheaper coffee) to put her $20 towards a better use.

It's been a full summer filled with fun times and special times both at home or visiting family! Let's do it again next year!

Our last six Wks, in six installments, in six Min. or less

Here are some awesome pix from our first family camping trip! If you want the long version, write to my mom!

Here is Nani's Bingg Car loaded up! Thank goodness it's just us 3, no one else would fit!

Mom surprised us, saying we were going to visit short fuzzy animals, I thought they were going to be dachshunds, but Quicksilver Ranch was filled with miniature horses! This was my favorite one named "Grumpy!"

We pulled out to head toward our next adventure when my mom screeched to a halt, turned around and drove back in yelling "Baaaaaaaaabies!" The littlest guy was kicking the owner, which must have hurt less than a mosquito bite.

Then we were on to Solvang...

a quaint little town where even the flowers are friendly! The snapdragons welcomed us!

My goal was to taste those "Pancake puffs" - As seen on Too much Nickelodeon TV! It's much easier to say than Aebleskiver anyway.

We checked out the Hans Christian Andersen museum, in the attic of a teeny little bookstore, dedicated to his writing and decorative paper cutting. My favorite adaptation they had was the Cowboy and the Chickpea (instead of Princess and the Pea!)
But the best part of going to that book store was I found my book for my bird reports... Vultures! More to come at the end.

We drove on to the Sage Hill Campgrounds in Los Padres Nat'l Forest for a weekend! All week my mom was tossing in her sleep, mumbling "Don't...touch...fish!" so all I could think about was pulling out my fishing pole called the Ugly Stick! Thanks Bapu! Lauren used Mom's from when she was little. Mom's weird though, she likes fishing, she just doesn't like fish. She'll eat them, she just doesn't want to see or touch them! Weird.

When fishing with the poles didn't work, we tried a different approach! I don't think there were any fish in that river!

Being a typical girl, as soon as we got all wet, Lauren had to go potty! This shows her "Before" stage in her transformation from "I caaaan't pee in the riveeeeeeeer!" to telling Mom if it was "Bushes or bathroom" time.
So in a nutshell we ate S'mores, slept in a tent, caught a frog that peed on my leg and bounced off Sissy's shoulder, sang "Mosquito Bite Blues", flew kites and I told 15 jokes off the top of my head at the campfire!

Oh, and here is the result of my vulture bird report! My Turkey Vulture Diorama!!! I did all the painting, gluing, and sculpting. Mom's contribution was a carcass in the back and an Extreme Bird Makeover where she took the American Eagle and turned him into a vulture!

Note: My vulture is flying!
